Née le 2 avril 1981 en Floride, Bethany déménagea au Texas à l'âge de 4 ans. Elle commence sa carrière théâtrale à l'âge de 7 ans, à Dallas, au Texas. Elle y interprète le rôle de Munchkin dans une production locale du Magicien d'Oz. Elle joue ensuite Scout dans To Kill a Mockingbird, Gypsy dans Baby June, et dans plusieurs autres productions théâtrales de Dallas. Pendant un voyage scolaire à Los Angeles, elle obtint son premier contrat professionnel dans une publicité pour Swans Crossing, une série pour ado.
À l'âge de 13 ans, Bethany déménage avec toute sa famille dans le New Jersey. Elle quitte le théâtre pour se consacrer à la télévision.
C'est en 2003 qu'elle obtient le rôle d'Haley James Scott dans la série Les Frères Scott, qu'elle continue à interpréter aujourd'hui. Les producteurs se sont servis de la voix de Bethany pour donner à Haley un rôle de chanteuse. En 2004, elle apparaît dans la comédie Bring It On Again.
